MIS Offers Lap Around Track For Charity
Tuesday, 24 November 2009 23:00

michigan-international-speedwayMichigan International Speedway will allow guests to take one lap around the 2-mile race track in exchange for items to be donated to Toys for Tots or the local Food Pantry.

Guests need to bring either one new, unwrapped toy or a bag of food to the track on Friday, December 4th from 8am ET to 4pm ET. They need to enter the track through the US 12 gate and follow the signs to the entry point. Guests will enter the racetrack on the backstretch and be allowed one lap, at a controlled 25mph pace before exiting where they entered.

"People need hope during the holidays, especially during tough economic times," Alisha Cottrell, director of Government and Community Relations for MIS, said. "Hopefully our efforts will not only give those in a need a little lift, but also brighten the lives of the staff for getting involved in our community."

Donors will be entered into a sweepstakes to win two tickets to the June NASCAR weekend at MIS as a guest in the track’s Champions Club suite.

Donations will also be excepted Monday through Friday from 8:30am ET to 5pm ET in the speedway lobby through December 16th.

Toy donations must be new and unwrapped. Food donations must be non-perishable and can include soap products, paper goods and canned fruit and juices.

"Now, more than ever, local charities need our support," MIS President Roger Curtis said. "We don't just work here; we live here. And our neighbors need help this holiday. We're happy to be a part of this community and need our race fans and friends to help us support it."
