This year, Richmond International Raceway will kick of the 2009 holiday season with the speedway’s sixth annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, December 1 at 7pm EST, and track president Doug Fritz has extended an invitation to all hardcore race fans wishing to attend.
The ceremony will feature the lighting of the track’s Christmas tree, music and fun on the track's front yard on the corner of Laburnum Ave. and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike/Meadowbridge Rd.
Laburnum Elementary School students will provide the tree decorations and musical entertainment. Additional decorations will be provided by students from L. Douglas Wilder Middle School. The Henrico High School Mighty Marching Warrior Band is scheduled to perform, and the high school’s football boosters will serve hot chocolate and cookies on the house. Those who will attend the event can also bring in donations for the Central Virginia Foodbank food drive and the Marine Toys for Tots toy drive. As an extra incentive Richmond International Raceway will match all donations made that night. For more information please visit www.rir.com. MORE NASCAR NEWS
