barney-hallThe National Motorsports Press Association recognized longtime radio broadcaster Barney Hall during the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards event Thursday in the Venetian Showroom at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, presenting him the prestigious Myers Brothers Award.

Hall was inducted into the NMPA Hall of Fame in 2007 and recently completed his 51st year covering auto racing.

“Despite all of NASCAR’s changes through the years, Barney Hall remains one of the sport’s constants," said NMPA President Dustin Long. “Barney is a regular Sunday visitor to many fans. He takes them to the track, describes the scene and shares unique stories about their racing heroes. He works with a grace and style that earns the respect of many."

The Myers Brothers Award recognizes individuals and/or groups who have provided outstanding contributions to the sport of stock car racing and is voted on each year by the members of the National Motorsports Press Association.

Mark Martin and the late David Poole of The Charlotte Observer also were finalists for the 2009 Myers Brothers Award.

The award, presented annually since 1958, honors Billy and Bobby Myers, racers who competed in the Carolinas and Virginia before their deaths. Bobby died in a crash during the 1957 Southern 500. Billy died 11 months later of a heart attack at Bowman-Gray Stadium. They passed on a legacy of racing to their families that spans three generations.
