MIS Receives Green Venues Certification
Saturday, 19 December 2009 00:00

michigan-international-speedwayMichigan International Speedway received the Green Venues Michigan Leader Certification by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth for the speedway’s conservancy over the years.

The idea for Green Venues is to bring about environmental gumption and cost-saving green practices to conserve energy, reduce water consumption, protect air quality, reduce waste and participate in environmentally preferred purchasing.

"We are honored to accept this award for our ongoing conservation efforts. We want to thank the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG) for allowing us to participate in this program," MIS President Roger Curtis said. "NASCAR fans are enthusiastic conservationists and MIS is extremely proud and excited to be leading the way in sports and showing fans the many ways in which all of us can help the environment. I can assure you that MIS is not done. We will continue to implement new green initiatives and seek other sports and facilities to join us in our efforts."

MIS has partnered with NASCAR to plant trees around the facility to help offset harmful carbons the race cars and other spectator and staff vehicles put out throughout the tracks yearly events.

Michigan International Speedway has implemented wall to wall recycling efforts.  MIS recycles everything from electronic waste to batteries and motor oil.

Michigan International Raceway is one of the greenest racing facilities on the NASCAR circuit today.

Hardcore race fans who have failed to renew tickets can contribute a $30 deposit to goodwill through January 5, 2010 to ensure the absolute lowest ticket prices in 2010.
