Stage 2: Gordon Leads, Vanguard Flips
Monday, 04 January 2010 00:00

robby-gordon-dakar-rallyNASCAR driver Robby Gordon led the second stage of the 2010 Dakar Rally at one point despite the terrain not being ideal for his 2-wheel drive HUMMER. Unfortunately, his Monster Energy/Toyo Tires H3 suffered a flat tire during the stage which cost the team some time.

“Only problem we had today where we lost a lot of time was a flat tire – Andy and I haven’t practiced changing a tire in a while,” Gordon said. “To lose 12 minutes isn’t too bad at this point and it’s all desert tomorrow so it should be good for us.”

In the end, Gordon was 12 minutes 28 seconds behind the leader putting him 11th in the stage and 9th overall.

The Chile HUMMER had a better stage than the first and is now 38th overall. dakar-rally

The third Team HUMMER vehicle was not as lucky as the first two. The driver made a steering error and the H3 flipped over a cliff. Fortunately, the driver and navigator were unhurt but the Vanguard HUMMER was not quite so lucky and is now hours behind the leaders and in need of repair.

Today the teams will take on stage 3 from La Rioja to Fiambala, a distance of 441km.
