Dakar Rally - Stage 5: Good Momentum
Thursday, 07 January 2010 09:42

dakar-rally-team-hummerNASCAR driver Robby Gordon took the win in stage 4 of the 2010 Dakar Rally and kept up the momentum to finish 4th in stage 5. This solid finish moved him up to 4th place overall from his previous 8th place position.

Gordon finished only 4 minutes and 48 seconds behind the stage winner and remains 59 minutes and 55 seconds behind the overall leader Carlos Sainz.

"We had an interesting day today. Since we were the first car on the road due to yesterday's stage win, we made the trail,” Gordon said.  Unfortunately, we got stuck once in a ditch as we were making our way, costing us about six minutes. Things were going along good and then we had an overheating issue near the end of the special. Stopping to replace the belt cost us about couple of minutes. Had it not been for these errors, I think that we could have won the special by about four minutes.”

Gordon has managed to keep his sights set on the big prize despite the challenges of the terrain and the grueling miles. dakar-rally-team-hummer

“It has been a good rally for us and the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires HUMMER. There is still a long way to go both in the Rally and competing for the overall win," he said.

Today the teams will go 670 km up the coast of Chile from Antofagasta to Iquique.
