After taking a day to regroup and rest, Team HUMMER took on stage 8 of the 2010 Dakar Rally from Antofagasta to Copiapo. The 568 km course took the drivers over a variety of terrain including an extremely rocky area and the desert dunes.
NASCAR driver Robby Gordon ended the previous stage in a disappointing 24th so he began the day very far back in the field. Amazingly, he managed to get his Monster Energy/Toyo Tires HUMMER up to 2nd before being bitten by bad luck once again.
He finished the stage in 10th place and is still 10th overall approximately five hours behind the leader. “We finished the stage in tenth place, which is the disappointing part of the day,” Gordon said. “It is frustrating because we know that we have a race car that is capable of finishing good each and every stage; we raced our way from 24th to 2nd. We just need everything to go good so that we can get the finishes that we deserve.” Today’s stage will take the drivers from Copiapo to La Serena. Because Gordon finished 10th yesterday he will begin 10th today which should give him an extra boost in his quest to win another stage. MORE NASCAR NEWS
