For the past few years, Richmond International Raceway and its title sponsor for the track’s May race Crown Royal has awarded naming rights to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event to an adult NASCAR fan.
Last year, U.S. Marine Russ Friedman was given the honor and the track will once again name the race after a military hero who is nominated by someone.
There are three days left to submit a nomination via www.crownroyalmilitary.com. Those who wish to nominate a service member must write a 100 word essay describing why that person is worthy of this honor. "Richmond International Raceway is proud to partner with Crown Royal for the fourth year to give one lucky race fan-and honored member of our military- this special recognition," track president Doug Fritz said. "This truly is a unique opportunity for one of our fans to get the VIP treatment and have their name on the race logo all around the track." In addition to the naming rights, the winner will serve as the Grand Marshal for the event and will participate in various TV, radio and print media interviews. Nominations will be accepted through this Friday, January 15th and the nominees must be 21 years of age or older and an active, reserve or retired member of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, National Guard or Coast Guard. Five finalists will be chosen by Crown Royal who will get an all expenses paid trip to Daytona where they will participate in a special ceremony and the overall winner will be chosen.
