phoenix-international-racewayToday two west-coast NASCAR tracks announced changes to their Sprint Cup Series events.

Phoenix International Raceway has decided to increase the distance of its spring night race scheduled for April 10th. Originally the Subway Fresh Fit 500, the race will be extended by 63 laps this year and is now the Subway Fresh Fit 600.

The change comes as a response to NASCAR’s decision to create standard start times for races. This way, the race at PIR will begin at 4:30pm local time will end in the darkness.

Meanwhile, Auto Club Speedway shortened its fall race during the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Previously dubbed the Pepsi 500, the race will be reduced by 100 miles and now known as the Pepsi Max 400. auto-club-speedway

"The results of some changes made by NASCAR such as double-file restarts and tire changes were seen at our inaugural CHASE race, arguably one of the best races ever at the Speedway,” track president Gillian Zucker said. “This additional rules change to 400 miles is further evidence of NASCAR's commitment to racing excitement and to Southern California race fans."

These changes further prove that NASCAR, the race teams and the event venues are all dedicated to bettering the sport in any way possible.
