NASCAR has a difficult responsibility. It plays the role of a sheriff while still having to please those that break the law from time to time and all of the townspeople.
In a constant effort to keep the peace, NASCAR announced some changes today that are pleasing to drivers and fans alike.
The rear-wing will be replaced by a more aesthetically pleasing spoiler that some drivers have already tested. “We went in and put the wing in for all the right reasons,” NASCAR President Mike Helton said. “Over the course of the little over two complete seasons this car has been on the racetrack the general acceptance of the wing didn’t grow past the point we thought it should have. So, the move now is to go back to the more traditional looking NASCAR-type Sprint Cup car which includes a spoiler.” Also, NASCAR will put more of the driving back into the driver’s hands by no longer restricting bump drafting at Daytona and Talladega. “The big thing today is us not policing bump drafting at Daytona and Talladega and that’s not as much as us giving up on something as it is us giving back to the drivers more control over what they do on the racetrack which compliments, we think, the fact that you can drive more of your style on the racetrack than we might’ve let you done three or four years ago,” Helton said. With these types of changes the drivers will be happier and the fans will get to see better racing. Today has been a good day for the police officers/peace keepers at NASCAR. MORE NASCAR NEWS
