Earnhardt Ganassi Racing Tests At Disney

juan-pablo-montoyaEarnhardt Ganassi Racing teammates Juan Pablo Montoya and Jamie McMurray went to Walt Disney World Speedway Tuesday morning for a two-day test session.

It was the first for the pair as teammates since McMurray’s transition to the team from Roush Fenway Racing after the 2009 season ended. It was also the first test of the year for both drivers and Montoya’s first since the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Homestead in November.

After the test session, the pair headed to Daytona for the Rolex 24 At Daytona Grand-Am Rolex Series season opener scheduled to begin Saturday January 30th at 3pm ET. The teammates will partner up with IndyCar drivers Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon for the long event.

The last time McMurray ran the 24 hours was back in 2005 but he is looking forward to the challenge again this year.

“It’s about being consistent and not running off the track and it’s so much different racing with the GT cars because you are going 15mph quicker than they are and you have to make a decision five seconds before you get to them which way you’re going to go because you are coming so fast,” McMurray said. “The daytime is a little bit easier than t he night. The night is hard to explain to people. When you run the road course your perception is a long ways off, it takes a while to get used to that. When we tested the car the first time I went at night I kept overshooting all the corners because your depth perception is off, it’s different but it’s a lot of fun to get to race that.”jamie-mcmurray

Montoya, who has previously won the Rolex 24, is looking to come out on top again and the key to doing that is not having a problem late in the race.

“Winning it, that’s the idea,” he said. “We have two wins and a second place. If you’re going to have a problem hopefully it happens early enough, if something ‘s going to break or hit something hopefully you get it out of the way early enough where you can recover. I think if you have a problem late you are completely screwed. With BMWs this year it’s going to be pretty interesting.”
