Wood Brothers Honorary Starters For Daytona 500

bill-elliottThe famous Wood Brothers, Glen and Leonard of Stuart, Virginia, have been named honorary starters of the 52nd Annual Daytona 500, set to start today at 1 p.m. ET. Glen Wood will wave the green flag to the 43 car field and will be joined by sons Len and Eddie along with brother Leonard on the flag stand.

 

The Wood Brothers have storied racing careers and are celebrating 60 years of NASCAR competition. The legendary brothers have been victorious in the Great American Race four times and claimed 96 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins with drivers such as David Pearson, A.J. Foyt, Tiny Lund, Neil Bonnett, Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty and Cale Yarborough.

 

"The Wood Brothers are legends in NASCAR," said Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig. "They have an important place in both the history of the Daytona 500 and NASCAR and it's an honor to have Glen Wood wave the green flag for our sport's biggest race of the race of the year."

 

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Bill Elliott will start the Wood Brothers #21 Ford from the 40th position in today's Daytona 500.
