Back-To-Back NASCAR Wins For Johnson

jimmie-johnson4-time and defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson took the checkered flag in the Shelby American 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway one week after winning at Auto Club Speedway.

This is Johnson’s 7th time winning back-to-back races in his career and ensures that he is the all-time winner on 1.5-mile tracks.

“No luck involved in that one my friend,” Crew Chief Chad Knaus said as his driver crossed the stripe.

Johnson’s teammate Jeff Gordon dominated the race but was unable to seal the deal with a win.

“We had the car,” Gordon said. “It’s real tough to make the right decision and that 48 bunch is so strong… we fought him off as long as we could.”jeff-gordon

Kevin Harvick finished 2nd to Johnson followed by the winner’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates Gordon and Mark Martin. Matt Kenseth just barely took the 5th position over sophomore driver Joey Logano.

Tony Stewart finished 7th just in front of Clint Bowyer, Kasey Kahne and Greg Biffle who rounded out the top-10.

Brand new daddy Carl Edwards worked his way to a 12th place finish while the 4th Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. ended up 16th.

Las Vegas natives Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch ended up 15th and 35th, respectively. The older brother was caught up in an altercation with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing teammates Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya and received heavy damage.

McMurray tagged Montoya in the left rear and turned him around. The two finished 34th and 37th and that 37th place finish was not what Montoya was hoping for and, true to form, he expressed his feelings on the situation.

“I know he’s (McMurray) trying to prove a point to show everybody he can drive a race car but it really ruined our day,” Montoya said in the garage. “He nearly ran me into the fence in two as well and going into three and then plain, simple just wrecked us. I don’t know. He’s not doing himself too many favors.”

While it is apparent that one team’s drivers are at odds about their performances in Sin City, the Hendrick Motorsports teammates Johnson and Gordon enjoyed their battle for the trophy belt in Las Vegas.
