NASCAR President Mike Helton said that the rear-wing on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars will be replaced by a spoiler within the next few weeks.
During the Sprint Cup Series Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway the new spoiler was unveiled. It was said that the wing was chosen for the Car of Tomorrow design because it was aesthetically pleasing. With a younger generation being brought up on movies like Fast & the Furious and fast, foreign cars with large wings, the idea was supposed to appeal to the new generation of NASCAR fans.
The spoiler, however, will serve more of a purpose and attempt to go back to the more traditional competition NASCAR has been known for. The wing seemed to take away from the racing. This new change coupled with the double-file restart rule, the newly modified green-white-checkered rule and NASCAR’s decision to back off on rough driving penalties ideally will get NASCAR back to the rubbin’ is racin’ days and make the sport even more exciting.
