Hendrick Drivers Dominate Final Cup Practices

jimmie-johnsonJimmie Johnson and teammate Mark Martin led the first of two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practices at Atlanta Motor Speedway today.

 

Johnson’s 29.226 second lap beat Martin’s 29.380 second lap by almost a full mile per hour; Johnson was running 189.694 mph while Martin ran at 188.700 mph.

 

Denny Hamlin, Kurt Busch, and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top-5 just in front of the other two Hendrick Drivers, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who were 6th and 7th, respectively. Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch and Marcos Ambrose completed the top-10.

 

In the final practice session for NASCAR’s top division, Martin led Earnhardt for the top spot with a fast lap of 29.883 seconds at 185.523 mph.

 

Martin Truex Jr., Paul Menard and David Ragan rounded out the top-5 with Jeff Burton, Ambrose, Brian Vickers, Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch completing the top-10.

 

The other two Hendrick drivers, Johnson and Gordon, did not fair so well in the final session and ended up 16th and 25th, respectively.

 

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway is scheduled to broadcast on FOX at 1pm ET Sunday.
