Logano Earns First Career Cup Pole

joey-loganoJoey Logano earned his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole Friday afternoon at Bristol Motor Speedway and will start Sunday's Food City 500 from inside of row one. Logano recorded a lap at 124.630 mph on the high-banked track located in eastern Tennessee.

 

"That was a big deal for us, to get our first pole," Logano said. "I never thought it would come here.

 

Kurt Busch qualified the Penske Racing #2 on the outside pole with a speed of 123.857 mph. Dave Blaney, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon will start third, fourth and fifth.

 

Juan Pablo Montoya, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Marcos Ambrose, and Dave Reutimann qualified sixth through tenth for the Food City 500.

 

Casey Mears and Terry Cook were able to make their first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race of the year on time after making several attempts since the beginning of the season.

 

Bobby Labonte will use a champions provisional to start Sunday's race. Max Papis and Mike Bliss did not qualify.
