NASCAR's two-day test session at the Charlotte Motor Speedway opened Tuesday with 49 Sprint Cup cars on the track as drivers and teams prepare for the much anticipated change from the dreaded rear wing to a traditional spoiler.

Many of the drivers participating in Tuesday's test agreed the spoiler added to the handling characteristics of the current Sprint Cup car.

"For me personally it was good to know and put out of my mind that the spoiler was going to be a drastic difference in the way the car drove," said Kevin Harvick. "That is not the case. The car has a lot of grip with the tire combination and the spoiler so it drives really good."

Juan Pablo Montoya posted the fastest lap in Tuesday's practice, driving the 1.5 mile track in 29.036 seconds at a speed of 185.976 mph.

"The test is helping us to learn more about the handling of the race car with the new spoiler and also it's like a normal track test session for us," said Juan Pablo Montoya. "The cars are a lot slower in traffic with the spoiler but aside from that it handles pretty much the same. We'll use the information we've gathered for a little bit of everything including the upcoming races at Charlotte."

Testing at the Charlotte Motor Speedway continues today with free grandstand admission for hardcore race fans from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. ET.
