david-gillilandWith six races of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule in the record books, David Gilliland and the #37 Front Row Motorsports team have proven to be one of the most impressive new teams on the track.

Gilliand heads to Phoenix, a familiar peice of real estate for the California native, carrying the momentum of a 19th-place finish in the Goody's 500 at Martinsville less than two weeks ago.

"The start of this season with Front Row Motorsports has been pretty good," said Gilliland. "It's been better than maybe what we expected, and we've been pleased with the quick progress we've made. I think people have to remember that this team was formed in January of this year. That's just four months ago and we're putting together a top-20 performance after just five races together. That's pretty amazing."

Currently sitting 34th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup driver point standings, Gilliland is looking forward to Phoenix this weekend, a track where he has visited Victory Lane in the NASCAR West Series.

"I'm just really looking forward to going out there. I'm from California, and Phoenix is just one of those tracks that are a big deal for a guy from the West, Gilliland explained. "Growing up, it's a place I went with my dad. It was the biggest race of the West Coast when we raced out there. It's something I put a lot of effort into. I want to run well because we have a lot of friends and family that go out to that racetrack to come and visit us and see us. It's definitely important for me to run good out there in front of my hometown crowd."

Nothing would suit Gilliland better than to post another top-20 finish in the Subway 600 Saturday night.

"We're hopeful for another good run this weekend. Phoenix is a great place for me. I've won races there in a lot of other divisions, not yet in the Cup Series, but hopefully soon. Hopefully this could be the weekend, but we're still happy taking steps forward with this team. Another top-20 or even a top-15 would be awesome."
