Recovering Hamlin, Gordon Take Practices

denny-hamlinDespite having surgery just over a week ago to repair an ACL tear, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin was the fastest in the first of two practices at Phoenix International Raceway today; Jeff Gordon was fastest in the second.

 

Hamlin's 27.437 second lap at 131.210 mph in his No. 11 FedEx Office/March of Dimes Toyota was half a tenth slower than Gordon's 27.388 lap in the second session shortly after the first.

 

Michael McDowell in the No. 66 Prism Motorsports Toyota was second in the first practice followed by Jamie McMurray, Kurt Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart completed the top-10.

 

In the final practice, Gordon was followed by A.J. Allmendinger in second. Ryan Newman Greg Biffle and Jeff Burton rounded out the top-5 while Johnson, Brian Vickers, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano and Stewart made up the top-10.

 

The Sprint Cup Series will qualify at 7pm ET tonight on SPEED and the Subway Fresh Fit 600 will broadcast Saturday evening at 7:30pm ET on FOX.
