Allmendinger Earns First Career Pole

aj-allmendingerA.J. Allmendinger earned his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole at Phoenix International Raceway with a fast lap of 26.731 seconds at 134.675 mph.

 

The lap was one of many to bump the early pole sitters including Ryan Newman off the top spot.

 

Scott Speed will start on the outside pole in his No. 82 Red Bull Toyota. Sam Hornish, Jr. and Marcos Ambrose qualified 3rd and 4th, respectively.

 

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was the top qualifying Hendrick Motorsports car after the teams struggled earlier on in the day. Earnhardt will roll off 5th.

 

Joey Logano qualified 6th, Juan Pablo Montoya qualified 7th and Martin Truex, Jr. qualified 8th. Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top-10.scott-speed

 

Ryan Newman and Kyle Busch who both held the pole early on will start 14th and 17th, respectively, proving how much the track changed as the sun went down.

 

David Stremme, Aric Almirola, Mike Bliss and Brandon Ash failed to qualify.

 

The Subway Fresh Fit 600 is scheduled to broadcast on FOX beginning at 7:30pm ET Saturday night.
