Kyle Busch ended a 21-race winless streak in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series after taking the lead from Jeff Gordon on a restart with only 5 laps to go in the Crown Royal presents the Heath Calhoun 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
Gordon had been leading with some very large advantages over the second place driver. At lap 300, Gordon was in front of Kevin Harvick by nearly 3 full seconds. The final caution flag flew with Sam Hornish Jr. spun on the backstretch but Gordon was unable to hold off Busch who had been itching for his 17th Series win for quite some time.
Gordon held on for 2nd followed by Harvick, Jeff Burton and Carl Edwards. Juan Montoya, Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Newman, Marcos Ambrose and Jimmie Johnson completed the top-10. Johnson lost the points lead after the event. He is now in 2nd place, 10 points behind Harvick. Next Saturday evening NASCAR’s premier division will try to tame Darlington Raceway. MORE NASCAR NEWS
