NASCAR announced today penalties to the No. 38 Nationwide team as well as the No.7 and No. 55 Sprint Cup teams after rules violations were discovered at Darlington Raceway last weekend.
The No. 38, driven in Friday night's Nationwide race by Kasey Kahne, was penalized after an unapproved left front shock absorber was found during post-race inspection. Stewart Cooper, crew chief, has been issued a $10,000 fine while Kahne and team owner Ralph Braun have each been docked 25 NASCAR Nationwide Series points.
Robby Gordon's No. 7 Sprint Cup machine was found to have unapproved door braces during pre-race inspection at Darlington last Friday. Crew chief Samuel Stanley received a $25,000 fine as well as being placed on probation until December 31, 2010 with Gordon being stripped of 25 driver and 25 owner points. The No. 55 driven by Michael McDowell had an unapproved final drive gear on board, resulting in a $25,000 fine for crew chief Zachary McGowan and the loss of 25 points each for McDowell and team owner Randy Humphrey. McGowan was also placed on probation until December 31, 2010. MORE NASCAR NEWS
