Busch Sweeps Weekend At The Monster Mile
Sunday, 16 May 2010 15:41

kyle-buschKyle Busch went to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Saturday at Dover International Speedway and made a return trip in Sunday’s Autism Speaks 400 in the Sprint Cup Series.

After the final series of green flag pit stops cycled through with just over 30 laps to go, Busch regained the top spot after leader Jimmie Johnson was caught speeding on pit road and had to serve a pass-through penalty. His margin of victory was roughly 7 seconds which is the largest so far this season.

“It’s phenomenal. It feels really really good,” Busch said after doing his traditional victory bow. “Today we prevailed. That’s what it takes to win one of these deals.”

The win was the 2nd in the Cup Series for Busch and leaves him 2nd in the point standings just 69 points behind leader Kevin Harvick.

The Joe Gibbs Racing team overall had a great day with Busch getting the win, Denny Hamlin finishing 4th and Joey Logano ending up 10th.

Richard Childress Racing also did well as a team with Jeff Burton crossing the stripe in 2nd and points leader Harvick winding up 7th. Roush Fenway Racing drivers Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards were also successful with a 3rd place, 6th place and 8th place finish, respectively.

David Reutimann was 5th and Tony Stewart ended up 9th. Outside the top-10, pole sitter Martin Truex Jr. finished 12th, Johnson was 16th after his late-race penalty and Casey Mears, who was sitting in for the ailing Brian Vickers, raced his way to a 22nd place finish. Vickers was released from the hospital Friday evening but a date for his return to competition has yet to be determined.

Now, the best-of-the-best in NASCAR will have two weekends at the sport’s home-base of Charlotte, NC. Next weekend some of the drivers will get behind the wheel for the All-Star race and then the Coca-Cola 600 will be run on Sunday, May 30th.
