Kurt Busch is $1,078,309 richer. He took the win in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway
The All-Star Race was a star studded event. On top of the current best-of-the-best in NASCAR, legends Richard Petty and Junior Johnson served as Grand Marshals the night before they are both enshrined in the brand new NASCAR Hall of Fame's inaugural class and NBA star Michael Jordan waved the green flag.
Once the race was underway 4-time champion Jimmie Johnson wasted no time in getting to the front of the field but a poor pitstop at the halfway point of the first 50-lap segment put the Busch brothers in the top two spots. The pair swapped the lead a few times but big brother Kurt Busch held on for the segment win over little brother Kyle Busch. Johnson then rebounded and dominated both the 2nd and 3rd segments; he took the win in both and led all but one lap of the combined 40-laps. Johnson restarted the 4th and final segment in 3rd after the mandatory 4-tire pit stop. Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch came off pit road ahead of him. Immediately after the green flag flew for the final segment the big one happened. Joey Logano appeared to get loose before getting into Mark Martin and turning the No. 5 into traffic. David Reutimann, Jamie McMurray, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and fan favorite Carl Edwards were also involved in the incident. 16 of the original 21 cars restarted after the big wreck. Hamlin jumped out front on the restart but Johnson and Busch got a run on him. The younger Busch went to the outside of his JGR teammate and Hamlin pushed him into the wall. But, big brother Busch came out of nowhere and took advantage. He took the lead and checked out. Unfortunately, Kyle Busch got into the wall after cutting a right front tire and took out Kasey Kahne as well with only two laps to go bringing out the caution and changing the entire outlook of the event. The heavy damage on the No. 18 took him out of the event. He drove his car back into the garage area and parked it right in front of the No. 11's hauler. Busch was clearly upset at his teammate for the block just after the restart. Over the radio he said that his team needed to keep him away from Hamlin. Just after the next restart, Hamlin got into Johnson and the No. 48 went for a ride through the infield grass bringing out another caution with 2 laps to go. Fortunately Busch managed to get a great restart and had a nice lead immediately after the green flag flew. He held on for the win with Martin Truex Jr., Logano, Hamlin and Tony Stewart rounding out the top-5. Johnson ended up 13th and Kyle Busch was still hanging out in front of the No. 11 hauler waiting for Hamlin after the checkered flag flew. MORE NASCAR NEWS
