Juan Pablo Montoya ran a fast lap of 38.112 seconds at 188.917mph at Michigan International Speedway to take the top spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' first practice session today.

4-time and defending Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson was second quick with a 38.193 second lap. Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top-5 in the session.

Jamie McMurray, Regan Smith, David Reutimann, Martin Truex Jr. and David Ragan completed the top-10.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. ended up 13th in the practice at Michigan which is the site of his last victory nearly two years ago.

The Cup stars will be back on track at Michigan this afternoon for qualifying. The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 is scheduled to broadcast on TNT at 1pm ET Sunday.
