Saturday, 12 June 2010 12:53

jimmie-johnsonPaul Menard proved how strong he can be at Michigan International Speedway in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice sessions before Sunday’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400.

Menard was quickest in the first of the two sessions Saturday with a fast lap of 38.824 seconds at 185.452mph. He was the only driver to break the 185mph barrier during that practice. During the first practice today, Carl Edwards was second to Menard followed by Jeff Burton, Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

In Happy Hour, Denny Hamlin, Gordon and series’ points leader Kevin Harvick followed Johnson and Menard in the top-5.

Pole sitter Kurt Busch ended up 8th in the first session today and 17th in the second.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers will run in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Sunday beginning at 1pm ET on TNT.
