The start of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway was delayed 90 minutes due to rain but it was definitely worth the wait for hardcore race fans in attendance and watching from home.
Independence Day is celebrated with fireworks and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers did not disappoint. After various small incidents throughout the event, with 12 laps remaining chaos erupted as the No. 31 of Jeff Burton bounced off of Kurt Busch and Sam Hornish Jr. which began a huge pile-up. Nearly half the field was involved in the incident that resulted in a red flag period.
The drivers involved included some of the more successful names during the event such as Mark Martin, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson. Earlier in the event, Kyle Busch hit the wall after making contact with Juan Pablo Montoya and Jamie McMuray and Martin Truex Jr. collided after David Ragan got loose and went spinning. As the race came to and end, the caution flag flew out one more time as the leaders were headed to the stripe for one more lap which set the field up for a green-white-checkered finish. Through it all, Kevin Harvick managed to stay out of trouble and took the victory for the second time this season. Kasey Kahne finished 2nd, followed by Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Burton. MORE NASCAR NEWS
