Carl Edwards claimed the pole position for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International after driving the 2.45-mile road course at 124.432 mph in qualifying on Saturday.
"This is unbelievable," said Edwards. "I can't tell you how much this helps our team and our confidence." Jamie McMurray posted a lap at 123.814 mph to take the second starting spot. Juan Pablo Montoya, McMurray's teammate, starts third.
A. J. Allmendinger and Kurt Busch round out the top-five. J.J. Yeley, Dave Blaney and Tony Ave did not qualify. The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips Sprint Cup race is on ESPN at 1 pm Sunday. MORE NASCAR NEWS
