As the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series nears the Chase, Kevin Harvick continues to lead the point standings over Jeff Gordon but behind those two the top-12 has been shaken up a bit as the Series heads to the Irish Hills of Michigan for the Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Jeff Burton moved up two spots after Watkins Glen to third and Kurt Busch was the biggest positive mover by gaining three positions and is now up to fourth. Defending champion Jimmie Johnson lost a spot and now sits fifth.
Denny Hamlin had the biggest position drop after Watkins Glen, losing three spots and settling in the 6th position. Kyle Busch lost one spot and is just behind Hamlin in 7th. Tony Stewart held the 8th position after the winding road course while Carl Edwards advanced one position up to 9th and Matt Kenseth dropped one spot down to 10th place. Greg Biffle maintained the 11th place position while Mark Martin moved up into the top-12 giving him the final transfer position into the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Clint Bowyer is just 10 points out of the top-12 in 13th place. The Nationwide Series standings remain relatively the same after Watkins Glen. Harvick and Paul Menard swapped 5th and 6th place with Harvick advancing to the top-5 as the series takes on Michigan in the Carfax 250. While NASCAR's top two divisions go north, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads south to the track too tough to tame, Darlington Raceway. Most recent race winner Todd Bodine still leads Aric Almirola in the standings while Timothy Peters and Johnny Sauter swapped third and fourth putting Peters on top and Austin Dillon and Matt Crafton swapping fifth and sixth moving Dillon into the top-5. Ron Hornaday, Mike Skinner, David Starr and Jason White complete the top-10.
