NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader Kevin Harvick took the win at Michigan International Speedway Sunday in the Carfax 400. Harvick took the lead from Denny Hamlin with just over 10 laps remaining and never looked back. The victory extended Harvick's points lead over Jeff Gordon to 292 points after Gordon finished a dismal 27th after cutting a tire.
Hamlin hung on for a second place finish moving him up to third in points behind Harvick and Gordon. Behind the two leaders were three Roush Fenway Racing drivers, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Team owner Jack Roush was at the track for the first time since the plane crash that put him in the hospital a couple of weeks ago. Roush was just released from the hospital a few days ago. Following the race, Ryan Newman and Joey Logano were involved in a bit of an off-track altercation following an on-track incident on lap 148 when Logano attempted to save his loose race car and clipped the rear of Newman's car. Track officials separated the two drivers before the situation really became physical; Newman ended up 23rd while Logano salvaged a top-10 finish. Tony Stewart ended the race in 6th which moved him up to fourth in the point standings. Last week's race winner Juan Pablo Montoya came home 7th followed by Martin Truex Jr. in 8th, Elliott Sadler in 9th and Logano in 10th. Next week, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Bristol for the Irwin Tools Night Race which will broadcast on ABC at 7:30pm ET on Saturday. MORE NASCAR NEWS
