Jimmie Johnson starts from the pole after posting a lap at 123.475 mph in qualifying for Saturday's Irwin Tools Night Race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.
Johnson beat out Carl Edwards for the coveted inside front row starting postion. Edwards ran a lap of 122.937 mph and starts second Saturday night. Joey Logano starts third with Tony Stewart and David Reutimann completing the top-five. Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Juan Pablo Montoya, Martin Truex Jr. and A. J. Allmendinger qualified sixth through tenth. Dave Blaney, Joe Nemechek, Kevin Lepage, JJ Yeley, Brian Keselowski and Mike Bliss did not qualify.
