Jamie McMurray made a lap around the Auto Club Speedway at 185.285 mph in qualifying Friday afternoon to claim the pole for Sunday’s Pepsi MAX 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
"That's all I had," said McMurray. "I worked really hard for my lap. The track has a lot of speed in it but it's really slick.” McMurray edged Elliott Sadler for the top starting position. Sadler turned a lap of 184.407 mph and lines up on the outside of McMurray on Sunday’s grid.
Matt Kenseth qualified third with Juan Pablo Montoya and Kasey Kahne completing the top-five. Mike Bliss and Patrick Carpentier did not make the field. MORE NASCAR NEWS
