Tony Stewart moved up five spots in the Chase with Sunday's win in the Pepsi MAX 400, his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory at the two-mile Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Stewart, who started the Pepsi MAX 400 10th in points, is currently fifth in the standings as the series heads to Charlotte next weekend.
Stewart received a push from Clint Bowyer on a lap 198 restart that sent the Stewart-Haas Chevrolet out front as Bowyer out-dueled Jimmie Johnson to the finish line. Bowyer finished second, followed by Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman. Many Chase drivers experienced problems in Sunday's race, including Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth, who had engines expire. Carl Edwards was forced to the garage for repairs that took 14 laps to complete, relegating him to a 34th place finish. Kurt Busch was involved in a late race mishap that caused heavy damage to his Penske machine.
Jimmie Johnson leaves California with a 36-point advantage over Denny Hamlin in the 2010 Chase for the Sprint Cup. MORE NASACAR NEWS
