Jeff Gordon claimed the pole position for Saturday night's Bank of America 500 , circling the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway at 191.544 mph to edge Carl Edwards for the coveted starting position. Edwards will start second after clocking a lap of 191.455 mph during qualifying Thursday evening.
Gordon, who hasn't won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race since last April in Texas, gave an enthusiastic "yeah, baby" to his crew over the radio on his cool down lap. AJ Allmendinger qualified third, followed by Mark Martin and Paul Menard.
Kyle Busch, Reed Sorenson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Elliott Sadler and Jimmie Johnson line up sixth through 10th on Saturday's grid. Joe Nemechek, Casey Mears, Mike Bliss, Jason Leffler, Kevin Conway and Johnny Sauter did not qualify for the Bank of America 500. MORE NASCAR NEWS
