Hard to believe but another season of NASCAR racing winds down with the Ford Championship Weekend getting underway at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Thursday. Denny Hamlin leads Jimmie Johnson by 15 points in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, the closest battle since the inception of the Chase format.
On track activities at the 1.5-mile speedway in South Florida begin Thursday afternoon with Camping World Truck Series competitiors participating in two rounds of practice, the first at 5:00 pm and the final session at 6:30 pm.
Sprint Cup drivers open the show Friday morning at 11:30 with a one and one half hour practice session followed by Nationwide practice at 1:10 pm, Sprint Cup qualifying at 3:10 and Truck Series qualifying at 5:05 pm. Nationwide Happy Hour is set for 6:35 pm and the 200-mile truck race is at 8:00 pm. ESPN2 will have coverage of Sprint Cup practice and qualifying while SPEED will provide live telecasts of the Nationwide practices, Truck Series qualifying and race. Nationwide qualifying starts the day on Saturday at 11:35 am with Sprint Cup practice at 1:30 pm and Sprint Cup Happy Hour at 2:50 pm. The 300-mile Nationwide race goes green at 4:30 pm.
