NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart has reportedly been detained by Australian police after an altercation at Sydney Speedway, according to a report by speedcafe.com.au.
Stewart allegedly confronted Sydney Speedway co-owner Brett Morris after a hot lap session in which the two-time Sprint Cup champion was upset about track conditions. It is rumored that a helmet and punches were thrown during the confrontation.
Speedcafe.com.au confirmed with staff at Parramatta Police Station this morning at 12:49 that Stewart was being held for questioning. No information regarding the incident or whether charges would be filed could be confirmed. Stewart has been racing in Australia this winter for a team owned by a business partner of Morris' and Australian racing legend Garry Rush. World of Outlaws driver Donny Schatz won Friday night's event at Sydney Speedway. MORE NASCAR NEWS
