The 24 Hours of Daytona got off to a safe start Saturday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway with polesitter Jorg Bergmeister leading eighteen Daytona Prototype cars and 32 Grand Touring entries to the green flag.
NASCAR drivers Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya are in the race, joining Scott Pruett, Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti, Memo Rojas, Joey Hand and Graham Rahal on the two-car Ganassi team. A three-time winning car-owner in the prestigious 24 Hour event, Ganassi settled for a runner up finish in the 2010 race after a miscalculation by a team driver while leading in the final hours. Ganassi, who picked up wins in the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 last year, brought an unbelievable lineup of driver talent to Daytona in search of his fourth victory. Ganassi entries went to Victory Lane in the 24 Hours of Daytona each year from 2006 through 2008. The annual race tests the endurance of man and machine for a full 24 hours on Daytona's 3.5-mile infield road course. MORE NASCAR NEWS
