Jeff Gordon won the 2007 Subway 500 at Phoenix International Raceway from the pole. This was a race that wasn’t dominated by Gordon by any means, that honor went to Tony Stewart who led the majority of the race until a late caution came out.
Gordon pitted under green just a lap before and held the lead on the re-start. Stewart went three-wide to take the lead back on lap 299 of the 312-lap race. Gordon passed Stewart the next lap and held on for the win.
That did not set well with Tony as after the race he compared NASCAR to the WWE and said that the races were fixed. That took away a little from Jeff’s win but nobody overshadowed what Jeff had just accomplished.
Stewart finished second with Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth rounding out the top-five.
With the Phoenix victory Jeff Gordon tied Dale Earnhardt's record of 76 career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins. In honor of the milestone achievement Gordon was given a flag with the number 3 on it and took it with him during his victory lap to salute the late Dale Earnhardt.
