Carl Edwards On Pole For Sunday's Subway 500

Carl-EdwardsTwenty-six drivers broke the track record in Saturday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying session at Phoenix International Raceway with Carl Edwards emerging as the pole winner for Sunday's Subway 500. Edwards now owns the track record at PIR with a lap at 137.279 mph.

 

Edward's, who finished second in the Daytona 500, won last November's Sprint Cup race at Phoenix from the pole and starts tomorrow's race with the Sprint Cup points lead.

 

"I have a good race car and a great crew," Edwards said after his record-setting run. "I love this track."

 

Budweiser Shootout winner Kurt Busch starts on the outside of Edwards. Busch posted a lap of 137.112 mph in the No. 22 Penske Dodge.

 

Kasey Kahne starts the Subway 500 third with Kyle Busch fourth and Regan Smith fifth.

 

Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Jamie McMurray, Brad Keselowski and Greg Biffle line up sixth through 10th.

 

Brian Keselowski worked overtime rebuilding the car he crashed at Daytona to make the trip to Phoenix and was the only driver that did not qualify for Sunday's race.

 

The Subway Fresh Fit 500 will be live on FOX at 3 p.m. ET.
