Jeff-GordonJeff Gordon returned to Victory Lane at Phoenix International Raceway Sunday afternoon, the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion passing Kyle Busch on lap 304 of the 312-lap race to break a 66-race winless streak dating back to April 2009.

"Wecome back," crew chief Alan Gustafson told Gordon via two-way radio just after taking the checkered flag. "That's why I love racing," Gordon responded.

Kyle Busch, who won the Truck Series race Friday and led the Nationwide race flag-to-flag, narrowly missed a trifecta in Phoenix this weekend. Busch accomplished the feat at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2010.

"Jeff just had a better car than us," Busch said. "He ran me down and flat-out passed me."

Busch finished second, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman.

Gordon missed several on-track incidents on his way to Sprint Cup career win number 83, tying him with Cale Yarborough for fifth on NASCAR's all-time winners list.

Polesitter Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch made contact on lap 59 that sent Edwards to the garage for repairs. "Not exactly sure what happened, I'll have to talk to Kyle about it," said Edwards. The Roush Fenway crew was able to get the No. 99 Ford back on the track but had to settle for a disappointing 28th-place finish.

Kyle Busch took responsibility for the incident and was apologetic after the race. "It was a big mistake on my part and I've got to apolgize to Carl Edwards," said Busch.

Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne had a short day after contact with Travis Kvapil sent the Wood Brothers Ford into the wall on lap 50.

The "Big One" happened on lap 67 when the cars of Matt Kenseth and Brian Vickers touched on the backstretch and started a chain-reaction crash that involved more than twenty-five percent of the field.

Kyle Busch leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship standings with a three point advantage over brother Kurt Busch as the series heads to Las Vegas.
