Carl Edwards led the opening practice with a top speed of 128.675 mph followed by Jimmie Johnson's lap of 128.022 mph.  Greg Biffle placed third on the speed chart at 127.954.  Kasey Kahne and Paul Menard completed the top-five.

Tony Stewart had the fastest lap at 124.889 mph in the afternoon session.  David Reutimann was second with his best lap of 124.678 mph.  Mark Martin, Jamie McMurray and Kurt Busch were third through fifth.  

The Jeff Byrd 500 is set for a 1 pm ET start on Sunday.
