Five races in the books with five different winners. The 2011 NASCAR season has been full of surprises with great racing and Sunday’s race in California was no exception.
VICTORY LANE The Finish - five races down and we have great stories every week! Kevin Harvick - leads the most important lap of them all after Kyle Busch leads 151 of 200 Matt Kenseth – Coming in for fresh tires and then making the most out of them by climbing to fourth at the finish. Attendance – Up from both of last year’s races at the Auto Club Speedway
THE GARAGE Joe Gibbs Racing Engines – Now five races in a row that their engines have had problems. If not resolved soon this could end Hamlin and Busch’s chances at the championship. Juan Pablo Montoya – Pole sitter was never a factor of winning his first oval race. Storyline that we will remember: Five different winners in the first five races of the season. Storyline that we will forget: Both Red Bull Toyota’s finished in the Top 10. Quote of the Week: "I wish we could just go out there and wear 'em out one day, just not have to worry about waiting until the last lap," – Kevin Harvick Tweet of the Week: @KevinHarvick “Well that was fun! Nothing beats winning!” – Simple and one hundred percent correct.
Power Rankings (Rankings will be based off of who is running the best, with an emphasis on the last several races but having respect for the duration of the 36 race schedule. Last Week’s Rankings can be found in parenthesis.) 1. (2)Ryan Newman – Man is 2nd in points 2. (3)Carl Edwards- Leader of the points but the reason he is behind Ryan Newman is because of Phoenix. 3. (1)Kurt Busch – First time this year he is not Number 1 in the Power Rankings. 4. (6)Kyle Busch – Has climbed to 4th in points, back to back strong performances 5. (4)Paul Menard- 7th in points and is making big strides this year. 6. (5)Tony Stewart – Has fallen two weeks in a row since he gave the race away at Las Vegas. 7. (8) Juan Pablo Montoya- Back on track with a pole and strong finish. 8. (9) Jimmie Johnson – Let Kevin Harvick out race him into turn 3 and out of turn 4 yesterday. I do not see that happening again though. 9. (12) Kasey Kahne – Takes his third Top 10 of the year and would be in the Chase right now. 10. (11)Jeff Gordon – Would make the Chase because of the wild card spots. 11. (NR) Kevin Harvick - Great come from behind Win at Auto Club. 12. (NR) Matt Kenseth – Sitting in 10th in the Sprint Cup points after his 4th place finish.
Driver of the Week: Kyle Busch, Most laps led but could not pull the victory out.
Stat of the Week - 88,000 fans in attendance. Would be a 22 percent increase in attendance from last year’s race.
Prediction for Martinsville: Since my prediction last week for the Auto Club 400 finished 2nd why don’t I take Jimmie Johnson again. Sleeper pick Greg Biffle.
I have decided to break down what I liked and what I did not like about the race and they will be in the top 2 sections. The things I like will be in Victory Lane and the things I did not will be in the Garage. Any suggestions on what these should be called send me a tweet or leave a message on facebook.
Send me your tweets @thomaseharris or leave a comment on facebook and I will gladly respond.
