David Ragan earned his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole in Friday's qualifying session for Saturday night's Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Ragan posted a lap at 189.820 mph to beat Roush Fenway Racing teammate Carl Edwards for the coveted inside front row starting position.
"It was a fast lap and the car stuck good,” said Ragan.
Edwards ran 188.521 mph on his best lap and lines up second.
Clint Bowyer, Matt Kenseth and Regan Smith qualified third through fifth, respectively.
Jimmie Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Joey Logano, Greg Biffle Ford and Kurt Busch complete the top-10.
Travis Kvapil was the only driver who did not make the field.
