Denny Hamlin came from the back of the 36-car starting field to win the fourth annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown Thursday night at Richmond International Raceway. The NASCAR Sprint Cup star laid down a pole-winning lap in qualifying but elected to start his No. 11 Late Model Stock Car from the rear for the 75-lap event.

Kyle Busch, Hamiln and Michael Waltrip were one-two-three on the last lap with Hamlin making a move to the inside as Busch's car wiggled with a fuel problem.

"It feels good," Hamlin said. "It feels like a Cup win, hopefully we'll keep this going."

Michael Waltrip held on to finish second.

"This was so much fun," said Waltrip. "I had to show them tonight that I still got it."

Chase Elliott, Joey Logan and Frank Deiny, Jr. rounded out the top-five.

Proceeds from the race will benefit cystic fibrosis, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Richmond and Victory Junction through the Denny Hamlin Foundation. Hamlin said prior to the race that 10% would go to tornado victims in the south.

"It's important to get some of this money to those families in the south who lost everything they had this week," said Hamlin.
