Dale Earnhardt, Jr. led opening NASCAR Sprint Cup practice for Saturday night's Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Raceway with a lap at 125.465 mph. Juan Pablo Montoya had the fastest speed in Happy Hour with his lap at 125.360 mph.

Carl Edwards was second in the first round followed by Clint Bowyer, Paul Menard and Ryan Newman.

Kevin Harvick posted the second fastest lap in Happy Hour with Carl Edwards third, Regan Smith fourth and Clint Bowyer fifth.

Sprint Cup qualifying begins at 5:30 p.m.
