Regan Smith scored his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win at Darlington Raceway Saturday night, taking the lead on a restart with nine laps remaining and holding off Carl Edwards on a green-white-checkered finish to join an elite list of drivers who have won the Southern 500.
"Legends are supposed to win this race, I'm not supposed to win it," Smith said.
While Smith was enjoying his accomplishment tempers flared as Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch got together on pit road. When Harvick and Kyle Busch entered pit road Harvick, still in his car, blocked the No. 18. Harvick exited his car and attempted to punch Busch as Busch pushed the No. 29 into the pit wall and sped off.
"Things happened," Harvick told reporters after a visit to the NASCAR hauler.
Edwards finished second and was among a number of competitors who visited Victory Lane to congratulate Smith. Brad Keselowski, polesitter Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman rounded out the top-five.
Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Jamie McMurray and Martin Truex, Jr. completed the top-10.
