NASCAR’s Memorial Day Weekend in Charlotte

What could be better than Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway? With a 1001 racing things to do set up all over town the Charlotte area is heaven for race fans this week. Highlighting the on track action is Saturday’s Top Gear 300 and Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600, the longest event on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule.

 

Carl Edwards maintains the Sprint Cup point lead over Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick heading into the 600. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., who scored his first career win at Iowa Speedway last week, remains atop the Nationwide point standings.

 

Nationwide practice kicks the weekend off Thursday at 2 p.m. followed by Sprint Cup practice at 3:30 p.m. Final practice for the Nationwide Series takes place at 5:10 p.m with 600 qualifying beginning at 7:10 p.m. All of Thursday’s action can be seen live on SPEED.

 

Teams take Friday off but are back to work on Saturday with Nationwide qualifying at 10:10 a.m. on ESPN2 followed by two Sprint Cup practice sessions on SPEED beginning at 11:30 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. respectively. The Nationwide Series takes to the track for the Top Gear 300 at 2:30 p.m. with driver introductions beginning at 2PM. Watch the race on ABC.

 

One of the biggest endurance tests of the year for Sprint Cup drivers happens Sunday with the Coke 600 set to start at 6 p.m. Driver introductions begin at 5:30 p.m. FOX will broadcast Sunday’s Coca-Cola live from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. All times are eastern.
