After not writing for quite some time now, I realized that it's hard to keep up on the current events of a sport that I love and work a full time job that is demanding hours wise. So I apologize to all of the website followers.
As you all know I am a big Dale Jr and most of my articles are based around him. After all the majority of the NASCAR fan base is a Dale Jr. fan. Last Sunday I took the pleasure of attending my fifth ever NASCAR event and my third consecutive June Pocono race. Now to me Pocono is a great track to go to. The atmosphere there is great. But one thing is missing when it comes to a race at Pocono compared to the other tracks and that is the action.
The racing gets spread out and you get lucky to have a caution just to bunch the cars back up. In Sunday’s race there were only a handful of cautions which were for debris. The only mishap was Greg Biffle getting loose coming out of turn three. The caution didn't come out because he spun right onto pit road. Now everyone has been saying that at Talladega and Daytona, we don't like the two car draft. I don't like it either to be honest with you. It's boring just like Pocono was this past weekend.
Now we can sit here and demand that the highly qualified at NASCAR should look at these things, but we all know that won't happen. I actually wish NASCAR would open up to us as fans and let us help fix things. I know I would like to help out.
Like this idea, have Pocono widen the track one or two more lanes and then throw more banking in the three turns. I honestly think it would change the way the track is raced.
How about the points chase right now? Can we say it’s going to be a hot one? Ten points is all that separates Carl Edwards and Dale Earnhardt Jr, with five time champ Jimmy Johnson stuck in the middle.
The move that Rick Hendrick made this past off season with his teams sure is paying off to be a good decision. Steve Letarte is a good match for Dale Jr. The 88 team has been consistant so far this year. Jr. is showing all of us that just being consistent this year will land you in a good spot in the points without winning a race, although I know JR Nation would like Dale to get a win this season.
How about his Hendrick teammate Jeff Gordon picking up his second win for the season at Pocono? It seemed like early Denny Hamlin was going to run away with another win at the Tricky Triangle. I was listening to SiruisXM radio last week and the one question on the Morning Drive was, "Is Denny Hamlin back?" I don't think so. In my eyes Denny is not the same guy who is driven to win like he was last season. It seems to me like Denny has lost some mojo over the off season.
Well the next stop for the Boys of Summer is M.I.S. Dale, Jr. seems like a strong contender to win on Sunday. He knows how to win there. Also Jimmy Johnson, Kyle Busch, and Kevin Harvick seem like good picks too. But keep an eye on Kurt Busch. Runner up and pole sitter at Pocono seems to have something to prove. The Dodges are strong this year. The Penske group surely has things figured out this year. I am looking forward to this weekend as NASCAR rolls into Michigan for some high speed action.
To all the friends of HardcoreRaceFans.com on facebook, I enjoy reading your comments so go ahead and post them. Thanks again everyone and Let's Go Racin'!!!!!!
