Joey Logano earned the pole for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 race at Infineon Raceway after steering the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 through the 10-turn road course at a speed of 93.256 mph during qualifying Friday afternoon. It is Logano’s second career Sprint Cup pole.
"This is the last place I figured we'd get a pole," said Logano, who has finished 33rd and 19th in his two previous starts at Infineon.
Jamie McMurray was a close second at 93.223 mph followed by Paul Menard, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Newman.
Lining up sixth through 10th on Sunday's grid are Kasey Kahne, A. J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose, Clint Bowyer and Brian Vickers.
Defending race winner Jimmie Johnson qualified 12th, Jeff Gordon 13th, Juan Pablo Montoya 17th and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 18th.
Sprint Cup point leader Carl Edwards starts 23rd and road course ace Boris Said starts 30th.
Tony Ave did not qualify.
Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 will be televised live from Sonoma, California on TNT at 3 p.m. ET.
