Well here we are after another round of restrictor plate racing, and it was pretty much the same old, same old. I know that some people love this form of racing, so this is strictly just my opinion; but to me it just seems awful to watch.
That’s why I didn’t.... I chose instead to head to a local dirt track for a night of entertainment. While the show on dirt was not the best I’ve seen, it was better than watching tandem drafting. All races are about being there at the finish to have an opportunity to take the win, but Daytona and Talladega take this to a different level.
In NASCAR’s defense, I’m not sure there are many answers to “fix” the problems that racing unrestricted at these two tracks would create. Other than the drama that usually occurs at the finish of these races, I just can’t convince myself that I like what I see. I doubt the teams and owners really care for all the end of race carnage either. Typically, I just am glad that all involved in the “big one” walk away in one piece.
I was very pleased with David Ragan picking up his first win, and the first win for the family after so many years of racing at Daytona. It’s always great to see perseverance finally pay off. This year has seen many first time winners, which speaks volumes as to the talent pool at the top of the sport. Not to mention the incredible level of competition…..
Well, I hope everyone has a great 4th of July holiday! Please remember all of our troops all over the world that ensure us that we live with the freedoms we have, in our great country!!
Until next week, be safe and keep the shiny side up!!
